I came up with the Mutant Shrimp over 12 years ago. Jim Butler, former editor of Fly Rod & Reel magazine, wanted some new flies to try on Redfish for an article he was writing. I sent him the really good flies and included this one as sort of a joke. In the finished product, "Dixie Reds" (Fly Rod & Reel, Jan/Feb 1995) he talks about how well this fly worked. I promptly lost the sample I kept (pictured), and just found it again all these years later.
